PhotoDock copies the photos and videos on your iPhone or iPad to a network storage server (NAS) that you own and set up yourself, and can then remove the copied items from your device. It is made by Daniel Redetzke, an individual developer in Ireland. This policy explains what the app accesses, where your data goes, and what stays on your device.
What PhotoDock accesses
- Your photo library: to read the photos and videos it uploads, and to delete them after a successful upload. iOS asks you to confirm every deletion. If your photos are stored in iCloud Photos, iOS may first download the originals from Apple so they can be uploaded.
- Your local network: to connect to the NAS at the address you enter.
- Your NAS sign-in: the username is stored on your device with the app's settings, and the password is stored in the iOS Keychain.
- Face ID: to protect your connection settings. Face ID is handled entirely by iOS. PhotoDock never receives your biometric data.
What PhotoDock collects
Nothing. PhotoDock has no servers, accounts, analytics, advertising or tracking, and it contains no third-party analytics or advertising code. Your photos, videos and NAS sign-in are sent only to the NAS you set up, and nowhere else. The developer receives no data from the app.
Data on your device
PhotoDock stores the following on your device only:
- its settings: the NAS address, share, folder, username and your backup options;
- the list of photos you have excluded from backup;
- uploaded items waiting for you to confirm their deletion;
- the last few folders you moved files to on the NAS;
- a cache of thumbnails of files on your NAS, and temporary copies of items while they upload.
Deleting the app removes all of these. iOS may keep the NAS password in the Keychain after the app is deleted; only PhotoDock can read it.
Security
PhotoDock connects to your NAS with SMB, signing in with your NAS username and password. The transfer itself is not encrypted, so use PhotoDock on a network you trust, such as your home network or a VPN to it. What happens to your photos on the NAS is up to you and how your NAS is set up.
Children
PhotoDock does not collect any information from anyone, including children.
Your rights
Because PhotoDock sends nothing to the developer, there is no personal data about you to access, correct or delete. If you have a question, email [email protected]. If you are in the EU or UK, you may also complain to your data protection authority; in Ireland that is the Data Protection Commission.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version is published on this page with a new date.
